Halfway to the All Star Game

By Zoo
Halfway to the Halfway point in the NBA season and there are a few things I have noticed ...

1. The Celtics and The Lakers are a combined 37-5. The only team to beat them BOTH is none other than the Indiana Pacers.

2. The best backcourt in the NBA has been the combo of Devin Harris and Vince Carter for the New Jersey Nets. Harris is averaging 24 and 6 assists while Vince is steady as a rock with averages of 22 points, 5 asts and 4 rebs. The Nets currently sit as the 5 seed in the Eastern Conference and currently have a better record than the conference runner up the Detroit Pistons.

3. Missing in Action. Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood have not played one minute of regular season action and the Wizards have started 4-15. The Wizards have made the offs the last 4 seasons but that streak is all but dead before the kids have unwrapped the gifts under the Christmas Tree.

4. No Surprise. The 2004 NBA Finals MVP is the leagues leading scorer. Dwayne Wade has simply been the best player in the NBA. He is averaging 29 pts, 7 asts and 5 rebounds. He would get my vote as MVP so far in the early going as he has put the young Heat on his back to the tune of a 12-9 record.

5. Surprise. The Denver Nuggets are 14-7 ... which includes a scathing 13-4 with Chauncey Billups running the show. As it stands today the Nuggets are a 3 seed in the West leading their division. There is a whole lot of basketball left but this is a great start for a team that basically gave Marcus Camby away.

Here are my All-Stars starters:

East

G. D. Wade, Miami - 29.5 ppg, 7.5 apg and 5.1 rpg
G. D. Harris, New Jersey - 24.4 ppg, 6.1 apg and 1.4 spg
F. L. James, Cleveland - 26.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg and 6.3 apg
F. C. Bosh, Toronto - 24.9 ppg, 10.1 rpg and 1 bpg
C. D. Howard, Orlando - 21.2 ppg, 14.5 rpg and 4.0 bpg

Close but no cigar - K.G., Boston - 16.4 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 1.8 spg and 1.4bpg

West

G. C. Paul, New Orleans - 20.6 ppg, 11.8 apg and 2.8 spg
G. B. Roy, Portland - 20.8 ppg, 5.2 apg and 4.6 rpg
F. D. Nowitzki, Dallas - 25.5 ppg and 9.1 rpg
F. T. Duncan, San Antonio - 21.4 ppg, 10.6 rpg and 3.4 apg
C. Y. Ming, Houston - 19 ppg and 9.7 rpg

Close but no cigar - Kobe, L.A. Lakers. - 24.9 ppg, 4,4 apg and 5.3 rpg

Let me ask a few questions?

1. Will Terry Porter finish the season as the Suns head coach?

2. Will Portland Trailblazer rookie Greg Oden make the leap from "learning" to "schooling"?

3. Who has done the best coaching job so far this season?

Simple Answers.

1. Yes 2. No 3. Lawrence Frank.

The Rooks

G. OJ Mayo, Memphis - 21 ppg, 4 rpg and 1.2 spg
G. D. Rose, Chicago - 18 ppg, 6 apg and 1.1 spg
G. R. Westbrook, Oklahoma City - 13 ppg, 4.2 apg and 1.8 spg
F. Michael Beasley, Miami - 13.9 ppg and 5.2 rpg
C. Brook Lopez, New Jersey - 9.6 ppg and 7.5 rpg

Stu Parkerwow. after reading this blog....You are spot on. I do not deny Kevin Garnett's ability as a player but HATE the BS stuff he does...All negative crap.
This is a very unfair article. Garnett is an Olympic Gold Medalist, an MVP, an ALL STAR MVP, an ALL NBA member and an NBA Champion... you know how many current players can say that? 2 others (Shaq & Kobe) and they are all considered among the best players at their respected positions in the HISTORY of basketball. The same should be said for K.G.

RaThis is blasphemy. I hope a Celtics fan did not write this article.
KWAPTHow old is that clip of KG? C'mon..of course that was a punk move, but what was that, 10 years ago? It's simple: KG is a fierce competitor who uses intimiadation and mental toughness to strike fear in the heart of his opponents. If he is on your team, you LOVE him. If he is not, you may loathe him. But either way, he is a great player. You cannot deny that.
AlexWow, now we are going to call an Olympic Gold Medalist, an MVP, an ALL STAR MVP, an ALL NBA member, an NBA Champion, a player that has more 20-10-5 seasons than Larry Bird, Defender of the Year (2008 and most likely, this year) overrated? Hmm, right now I'm kind of smelling a bit of jealousy mixed with stupidity in this article.
TweedsterThis blog is poorly written, scattered and incoherent. Thankfully, someone else already tackled the inconsistencies and leaps of logic. Check it out hear: http://celticshub.com/2009/10/22/did-you-hear-kg-is-overrated/
TweedsterSome actual statistics, and not just conjecture and strange conclusions based on the number of 'chips KG has. http://www.celticstown.com/is-kevin-garnett-clutch.html
SPron campbell must love the Lakers. Or the Cav's. Or the Magic. but he doesn't know @$@@ about basketball!
Ed The Sports FanI'm sorry, there's no way in life Allen Iverson isn't in the starting 5, especially ahead of Nash. Give a damn about MVP's, Iverson's done more with much much MUCH less and totally revolutionized the game. Other than that, I think your decade team is cool. -Ed.
Lebron is the KingThe way you analyzed your stats is flawed. If your saying Bird is better because he hits more 3 pointers, scores more, and passes more, your wrong. Bird had exceptional teammates which explains some assists. Now Bird was a great 3 point shooter and you said Duncan was a "center playing a power forward". Now if he does this, why would you bash it? All it shows is how versatile Duncan is in his position on the court. Duncan although not a flashy player, showed dominance under the goal. Duncan didnt need to pass because he could school anyone under the goal. Duncan is better because he has more rings. End of story. And to your comment on "We will never see another Larry Bird." Well we see a better one now, he goes by Ray Ray.
