Avatar

If you are going to see this movie you have to fork over the extra $2.50 and see it in 3D. It is so visually exquisite that you need to see it in every dimension. The quick low down on this film is that it’s a tad long and the story is very predictable and somewhat preachy. Putting that aside this movie is a must see at the theater, for the presentation of it, if nothing else. The acting is excellent. Pulling the talented character actor Stephen Lang out of left field and smacking him down into the middle of this movie was awesome! Sigourney Weaver is funny and likeable in her well-suited role as the scientist with a heart. Sam Worthington has had quite a year, first Terminator Salvation and now Avatar, he must be giving thanks to the acting gods of Hollywood right about now. He holds his own in this big role, just as he did in Terminator. Same with Zoe Saldana who was also involved in 2009’s Star Trek. Giovanni Ribisi and Michelle Rodriguez are both outstanding and underused here.
I have never seen a movie this visually stunning. The story is told as much with the effects and colors as with the script. I don’t know how well it will transfer over to a TV screen so do yourself a favor and catch it on the big screen. I’m sure it will have a long life at theaters.
Sherlock Holmes

I didn’t really want to see this movie. I do not particularly care for Jude Law and I don’t want to like Robert Downey, Jr. I gave it a chance and was pleasantly surprised. First of all for as much as I don’t want to like Robert Downey, Jr. he doesn’t make that easy. With his career saving performance in Iron Man it has been all good for him. Jude Law plays Watson and this is the perfect character for him. He is not whiney and pompous as he usually is. The story is fun and entertaining, the effects are good but you can tell that they are effects for the most part, which kind of stinks. It was worth seeing on a lazy Sunday. I am ashamed to admit that I didn’t know Guy Ritchie was the director. I am a big fan of his and didn’t really see any of him in the movie until his name appeared on the credits.
Best part is when Holmes breaks down his fight moves. Let me know what you thought of it……….
Armored

Knowing what to expect when going to see a movie like Armored is the key to not being disappointed. The story is weak and predictable but I knew it would be so I just sat back and enjoyed the action.
This movie has an impressive cast. Matt Dillon is aging very well. Skeet Ulrich played his smaller role with enthusiasm without over doing it. Laurence Fishburne is good as the yahoo trouble maker. Amaury Nolasco is decent in everything I’ve seen him in so far. I’ve been a big fan of Jean Reno since “The Professional” so I do think he didn’t have enough to do here but everyone played their role well and made the characters believable. The main characters played by Matt Dillon and Columbus Short, (who some may recognize from Quarantine) were likeable and believable.
While the story was weak the action was plentiful. The trailer for this movie pretty much gave away the whole thing, but it was still fun to watch. There were overtones of “Reservoir Dogs” as well as “Trespass”. Jimmy never gets his hot dog and Milo Ventimiglia does the right, wrong thing. Not a bad movie to see if you’ve got nothing better to do, but not a must see at the theater.
Music Review
Ke$ha Animal

Ok I am in no way a music expert but I just got the debut album from Ke$ha, who you may have heard on the radio with her single, “Tik Tok”. With vocals and lyrics reminiscent of JJ Fad, this CD is pure pop fun. Kesha Sebert has writing credits on every song and a real voice to back up the silliness. There is not one song on this album that is not catchy. My favorite song so far is “Blah Blah Blah”. I see real talent here and have already listened to the CD more then my most recently purchased Madonna CD…That’s saying something…….
Download, purchase, listen…..
