Ok in the past two weeks I’ve been to the movie theater 3 times…I traveled far to the North to see Paranormal Activity. Then right next door to see both Couples Retreat and Law Abiding Citizen. Here is what I think of all three…..
Paranormal Activity - Ok this movie will be compared to The Blair Witch Project, with its small budget and large box office numbers. The difference between this and Blair Witch is that the camera is stabilized (YAY!!!) and for the most part stationary. I will admit there was one scene that made me jump a teeny bit, I’ll call it more of a twitch, and another that gave me the creeps. Other than that it was a pretty predictable low budget fare. The acting wasn’t horrific and you can usually see what is going on. If you liked Blair Witch or Quarantine then you will know what to expect of this movie. It’s ok…I don’t regret seeing it but probably wouldn’t watch it again.

Couples Retreat - I was hearing bad things about this movie, so glad I didn’t listen to them. How can anything with Vince Vaughan be that bad? (Well except for The Breakup but I blame Jennifer for that). Anyway, I laughed through the whole movie, tears and all… I will probably buy this on DVD. The cast was awesome and even the obligatory mushy lame part of the film wasn’t overly mushy…phew!

Law Abiding Citizen – I have been looking forward to this movie for months, ever since my co-worker Carlos, (that’s right, shout out on the first blog post), sent me the trailer. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the way the story went. The action scenes were terrific and the way the crimes were carried out impressed me. A few original ideas actually made it to the screen which can be unusual for a large budget action movie. All of that aside, the story caved to the “Hollywood Norm” and it was all wrapped up in a neat little bow by the end. Oh well, at least I got to watch Gerard Butler be semi-bad which he hasn’t done since Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life. Jamie Foxx was good with what he had to work with, which wasn’t much for his character unfortunately. Regina Hall’s talent is totally wasted as Foxx’s wife but that was to be expected too.

For anyone who hasn’t seen Zombieland yet… GO SEE IT! It is very funny and an instant cult classic for any fan of horror. For those with weak constitutions, the humor in that movie should make up for the gore.

Next up for me is Saw VI… but I don’t know. My opinion is they made all the Saw movies at the same time and just keep editing crap together to keep cashing in. I cannot wait until Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day comes out on 10-30-09; many years over due but sure to not disappoint since the original cast is all aboard!

| Ant | Let's all keep it 100.. We all know deep down Magic and Zeke were flirting with the gay line. Pre-game kisses (c'mon now). Just think the gay thing just started really popping. They were doing that in the late 80's. So I think Magic just told bird, mj, etc.. before zeke got a chance to. When Magic said he had HIV remember his wife Cookie and the baby had no strand of the HIV virus... Thing to make you go ummmmm. Down low brother (DLB). I'm just saying people don't want to say it because of there accomplishments, which is understand able we want to remember players as players. But keeping it real you never say I disappointed I could never have a good RELATIONSHIP lik I wanted with him???? For example we all have friends you would never say I wish I had a RELATIONSHIP with the guy. You would say to bad we couldn't be FRIENDS... Let me know what you all think. When keeping it real goes wrong...lol |
| | Ant you are kind of on the money... these guys have done so many things with so many women they sometimes move on to other things. From Eddie Murphy to Will Smith there has been rumor after rumor of successful black entertainers that have been "spotted"... |
