(prior rank) Team Record

1(7) San Antonio (41-17)
The Spurs have won nine in row and 13 of their last 14. Their recent success is in large part due to Manu Ginobili who has averaged 24.3 points 6.5 assist and 5.7 rebounds in the month of February.

2(1) Boston (46-12)
The Celtics have rebounded from losing three straight games and are currently on a five game winning streak. Wednesday the Celtics meet with the Detroit Pistons and if the first two meetings were any indication of things to come, expect this game to be another classic. Also expect the Celtics to sign Sam Cassell Monday.

3(3) LA Lakers (42-18)
After leading the Lakers to a 13-2 February Kobe starts the month of March by going for 52 on national television, 30 of those points came in the fourth period and overtime.

4(4) Detroit (43-16)
The Pistons let one slip away in Utah last Wednesday, but took care of business Saturday with a blow out victory against the Clippers.

5(5) New Orleans (39-19)
Chris Paul and the Hornets, defeated the Phoenix Suns again last week and swept the season series 4-0. In the process Steve Nash had to fork over the crown as best point guard in the league as Paul dominated the former MVP Nash.

6(11) Houston (39-20)
The Rockets are on a 15 game win streak and have won the last three without All Star center Yao Ming. The streak should continue against Indiana but will be put to the test against the Mavericks and the Hornets later this week.

7(6) Dallas (39-21)
Avery Johnson let a 2-0 finals lead slip away in 2006, in 2007 he started the playoff series against the Warriors by changing his starting line-up and subsequently losing the series in six games and on Thursday against the Spurs he sat Jason Kidd for the last two minutes of the game. Is Avery Johnson a good coach?

8(8) Utah (38-22)
The Jazz are three and three in there last six games. Deron Williams followed up a loss to bitter rival Chris Paul and the Hornets by dishing out 19 assists against the Grizzlies.

9(2) Phoenix (39-20)
Phoenix has lost two in a row and four out of six games with the Diesel, Shaquille O’Neal, in the middle. Phoenix’s defense has looked very poor during this stretch, as they have allowed 112.5 points per game.

10(9) Orlando (38-23)
The Magic can get some revenge against the Chris Bosh-less Raptors Tuesday, the last time these two clubs met Chris Bosh went for 40 points in a Raptors win.

11(12) Golden State (36-22)
The Warriors have won four of their last five games and they start an east coast road trip with contests against the Hawks, Bobcats, Heat and Magic.

12(10) Denver (35-24)
The Nuggets have lost four of their last six games and with their loss to Houston on Sunday they are a game and a half out of the eighth spot in the west playoff race.

13(13) Cleveland (34-26)
On Sunday with the Cavs down early in the fourth Lebron James checked back into the game and anchored a 27-10 run to get past the Bulls in the first of their four meetings this season.

14(15) Toronto (32-26)
Bad news for the Raptors as Chris Bosh is down with a sore right knee. Better news is Bosh is only expected to miss a week.

15(14) Portland (31-29)
February was a tough month for the Blazers as they went five and nine; they didn’t start March off well losing to the Golden State Warriors. Their playoff hopes maybe all but over.

16(16) Washington (29-30)
Eddie Jordan has to be on the short list for coach of year, the Wizards have managed to hover around .500 without Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler. On Sunday the Wizards were able to get a victory against the very hot Hornets.

17(21) Philadelphia (27-33)
Andre Igoudola led the 76ers with 32 points in a dramatic win in Phoenix. The Sixers have won seven of their last 10 and are only two and half games behind the Wizards who are currently a sixth seed in the east.

18(20) New Jersey (26-33)
Devin Harris is fitting in well with his new team, scoring 21 points against the Bucks and Spurs.

19(18) Atlanta (24-33)
The Hawks are doing whatever they can to not make the playoffs. They have only won three of their last 12 games. If this roster can’t make the playoffs in the East then the team should consider going in a different direction other than head Coach Mike Woodson.
