NBA Power Rankings

Due to technical difficulties, there were no power rankings last week so the last week rank is actually from two weeks ago. The Celtics retain the number one ranking, despite losses to the Raptors and the Magic, simply because they only have 8 losses.
Rank
(Last week) Team Record
1(1) Boston (34-8) The Celtics lost to the Raptors, but the Raptors shot 15-21 from behind the three-point line. On Sunday the Celtics were without Kevin Garnett, who was out with an abdominal strain, and fell to the Magic after a buzzer beating 3 pointer by Hedo Turkoglu.
2(7) New Orleans (31-12) They are the best in the West and solidified that claim with a huge victory over the defending champs in San Antonio. The Hornets also sport the NBA’s longest winning streak with 8 wins in a row.
3(2) Dallas (30-13) The Mavericks have won 11 of their last 13 games and have turned things around after their slow start. Dirk has scored over 20 points in each of those 13 contests.
4(3) Detroit (31-13) After losing a close game to the Magic in Orlando, the Pistons were able to defeat the 76ers and then got their revenge by pounding the Magic in Detroit.
5(6) Phoenix (32-13) With the West virtually up for grabs, I am pretty sure Phoenix is going to look back at the two losses they suffered to Timberwolves with deep regret. Without those two losses, the Suns would be number one in the west.
6(4) San Antonio (28-14) They went 2-2 last week winning games against the sub .500 Bobcats, and the Bynum-less Lakers, other than the Lakers, the Spurs continue to struggle against teams with winning records. They lost to Houston and were blown out at home by the Hornets.
7(5) LA Lakers (27-15) Lakers have lost three in a row and are 2 and 4 without Andrew Bynum. The Lakers face the New York Knicks at home before embarking on a 9 game road trip. 8 of the 9 games are against Eastern Conference teams beginning with Detroit. The Lakers are currently 9-7 against the Eastern Conference.
8(11) Orlando (27-19) Last week was a good week for the Magic. They beat the Pistons, the Grizzlies, and Mr. 4th Quarter Hedo Turkoglu hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to get past the Celtics. The Magic failed to sweep the Pistons for the week allowing Richard Hamilton to go for 32 points Friday Night.
9(8) Denver (26-17) After two wins without Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets finally lose to the Dallas Mavericks. Anthony’s absence against the Mavericks was a game time decision. Hopefully he will be ready for their Monday night match up with the Hornets.
10(9) Portland (26-18) Portland snapped their 2 game losing streak by beating the Hawks on Sunday. Cleveland comes into town Wednesday in what should be a very exciting match up.
11(10) Golden State (27-18) With Allen Iverson getting the vote over Tracy McGrady you have to expect a wildcard all-star game spot to go to either Baron Davis or Stephen Jackson.
12(12) Utah (26-18) Utah has won their last four games and 9 of their last 11 and appear to be getting things back on track. Monday Nights game against the defending champs, San Antonio Spurs, will be a good test for the Jazz.
13(15) Toronto (24-19) The Raptors have won 7 of their last 9 games, including a huge win against the Celtics last week. Chris Bosh has averaged 29.0 ppg and 8.7 rpg during this stretch.
14(14) Washington (23-19) Caron Butler’s 40 points was not enough for the Wizards to get past the Bucks Sunday as the Wiz lose 102 to 105. The Wizards have a tough week ahead with back-to-back games against the Raptors and the Jazz and then the Lakers on Sunday.
15(13) Houston (24-20) Despite being four games over .500, the Rockets would not even be in the playoffs if they were to start today, in the east however, they would be a sixth seed.
