NBA Power Rankings
By the Gentleman
This is the final Power Rankings of probably the best NBA season I can ever remember. There were so many story lines going into the season. Kobe trade demands, Kevin Garnett becoming a Celtic, Isiah Thomas trial etc. and there were even more as the season progressed the Blazers win streak and the emergence of Brandon Roy, the Rockets 22 game win streak, the Pau Gasol trade etc. This was an awesome season to all the fans who turned their back on the NBA you missed out on a terrific season haha.

1(1) Boston (64-16)
The best turnaround in NBA history, the Celtics only won 24 games last year, Danny Ainge did some fast talking and now the Boston has a legitimate title contender on their hands. Danny Ainge, Executive of the Year.

2(4) LA Lakers (56-25)
With a victory against the Kings on Tuesday the Lakers will win the tightest playoff race in NBA history. Kobe lead his team to consecutive victories over the Hornets and Spurs, how is Kobe not the most valuable player?

3(3) Detroit (57-23)
Rodney Stuckey missed most of the season but every month, since returning from injury, he has played better in April he is averaging 15.0ppg and 4.6apg.

4(2) New Orleans (55-25)
The Hornets lost two big road games last week against the Lakers and Kings, what concerns me about the loss to the Lakers is that the Hornets came out so flat in what was playoff type game. The Hornets are nice but I would be lying if I said their playoff inexperience didn’t concern me.

5(5) Phoenix (53-27)
They follow up the win at San Antonio with a loss to the Rockets. As it stands now Phoenix would meet San Antonio in the first round. With the Shaq in the middle and revenge on their minds from last year, I think Phoenix wins in seven.

6(7) Utah (53-27)
They got a huge victory in New Orleans but I am very concerned with the Jazz future beyond the second round without home court advantage.

7(6) Houston (54-26)
Rockets have had a good season but without Yao I don’t see them getting past the Jazz.

8(8) San Antonio (54-26)
In April they have lost games to Jazz by 26,the Suns by 17 and the Lakers by 21, the defending champs are weak today.

9(9) Dallas (50-31)
Dallas almost made me a believer with the victory against the Jazz but then go on the road and lose to the Blazers and the Sonics.

10(10) Orlando (50-30)
The Magic got a great season from HedoTurkoglu and Dwight Howard has emerged as a star. They are a few years and point guard away.

11(13) Denver (49-32)
The Nuggets will most likely retain the eighth seed and a matchup with the Lakers. But they don’t play any defense so I don’t see them getting out of the first round. George Karl what are you doing?

12(12) Washington (42-38)
Gilbert Arenas says he wants to play the Cavs in the first round and I don’t blame him. The Wizards are healthy and even got a win against the Celtics last week.

13(14) Cleveland (44-36)
The Cavs have looked awful since making their midseason trade, they barely got by the Miami Heat Sunday night with Lebron ailing. The Cavs are looking at a first round exit.

14(16) Toronto (40-40)
The Raptors will could slip as low as seventh seed which would pit them against Detroit, I think the Raps would much rather see the Magic in the first round.

15(15) Philadelphia (40-40)
The 76ers lost their last two but have a pretty good chance to finish over .500 with their final two games against the Cavs and Bobcats.

16(17) Atlanta (37-43)
The Hawks play a the likely foe in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday against the Celtics. They will most likely lose and I expect them to get swept in the playoffs.

17(11) Golden State (48-32)
Don Nelson believes the NBA should change the current system so that the 16 teams with the best record make the playoff. Golden State will make history being the best team to not make the playoffs.

18(19) Portland (40-40)
The Blazers had a good season, They made it real exciting with the 16 game win streak. Greg Oden coming back next year and possibly another good rookie this team will become even more of a problem.

19(20) Sacramento (38-42)
The Kings are another team who I believe next year will be able to compete but that depends on whether they keep Artest or not. 20(18) Indiana (35-46)
Pacers were a bit of a disappoint, Jermaine O’Neal will have to get traded to begin the rebuilding process.

21(21) New Jersey (33-47)
Jason Kidd had a lot to do with this team’s poor performance this year. Next year I expect they will be a little better but the team should really look at Lawrence Frank and consider going in a different direction.

22(22) Chicago (32-49 )
I expect the Bulls to blow everything up in the off season.

23(23) Charlotte (31-49)
The Bobcats will have Sean May and Adam Morrison back next year ready to contribute. The Bobcats looked good during stretches this season the will be tough next year.

24(27) Minnesota (21-59)
As good as Al Jefferson is the Wolves won’t be able to compete. Bottom line is Jefferson is the only player on the team that would start on a contending team.

25(28) Seattle (19-62)
It was nice for Seattle fans to see their team win a big game against the Mavs, I am still very disappointed with the direction this franchise has taken.

26(25) LA Clippers (23-57)
The Clippers have lost five in a row and will end the season on a sour note, once the season is over they need to figure out what they are going to do with Shaun Livingston.

27(26) New York (23-58)
I was really rooting for Isiah, I thought his players would rally behind him but they more then wilted under the pressure. Isiah will most likely be fired. Hopefully he can remain in the NBA in some capacity.

28(29) Memphis (22-58)
Chris Wallace is one of the worst minds in basketball should be fired for the Kwame Brown/ Pau Gasol trade, its was pure incompetence

29(24) Milwaukee (26-55)
The Bucks dip this low because it was pathetic to watch them battle with the Celtics reserves and then lose the game in overtime to, Larry Krystiowiak has to go. This team was a major disappointment they should have been able to compete.

30(30) Miami (14-67)
Awful just awful, David Stern will have to revisit the lottery system as tanking is becoming a very unpopular trend. It is really no surprise that Pat Riley would be the guy to ruin the lottery system. The guy always goes too far, the Heat are fielding a NBDL team and back in the early 90’s it was Pat Rileys Knicks that slowed and roughed up the game.
