TheHoopsForum Power Ranking
By Ron Campbell
3/23/2009
On Tuesday the Sacramento Kings will retire Vlade Divac's number 21. Vlade was a terrific player for the Kings, he played an integral part in the success of the Kings in the early part of this decade. I for one will be tuned in to see Vlade honored as he is much more then deserving of the honor. Here are the Rankings:

(1)1. Cleveland (60-13)
Lebron was on 60 minutes Sunday giving an interview about how great he is, the Cavs are great right now, winners of 12 in a row and Lebron is running away with the MVP trophy.

(2)2. LA Lakers (58-15)
Kobe Bryant's is not feeling or playing well in the Lakers last two games. Bryant has shot 12-38 to only score 31 points, I really can't believe it.

(4)3. Orlando (54-18)
Orlando is good and all but they nearly allowed the Celtics to comeback and win on Wednesday. The Magic were able to sneak away with a 84-82 victory, I don't believe the Magic will be able to get past the Celtics in a seven game series.

(3)4. Boston (56-19)
The Celtics are playing tough despite the news that Kevin Garnett will most likely sit out for a few more games. Big Baby Glen Davis has stepped up the last two wins for the Celtics by getting double-doubles in both contests.

(6)5. San Antonio (48-25)
Tim Duncan recently stated that Tony Parker should receive consideration for MVP as he has kept the Spurs consistent all season. Parker is averaging career highs in scoring and assists at 21.9ppg and 6.9apg.

(8)6. Denver (48-26)
Carmelo Anthony has been playing some terrific basketball as of late averaging 30.4ppg in the Nuggets last five contests.

(5)7. Houston (48-26)
I for one want to see another Houston versus Utah playoff series, Houston should want them as well they owe the Jazz a first round exit.

(7)8. New Orleans (45-27)
James Posey had to sit out Sunday's 90-86 victory over the San Antonio Spurs for throwing a basketball at a referee, during  Friday night's loss to the Knicks.

(10)9. Portland (46-27)
The Blazers play the Jazz on Tuesday in a huge Northwest divisional contest, each team has won the previous three games on their home floor this game will be played in the Rose Garden.

(9)10. Utah (45-27)
Utah will be going into Portland after playing the Knicks on Monday night, I got the Blazers winning because the Jazz are 14-21 on the road.

(11)11. Atlanta (43-31)
Another tough upcoming week for the Hawks with games at Philadelphia, Boston before they return home Saturday to play the Magic.

(13)12. Miami (39-34)
The Heat lose two road games this week at Indiana and Chicago, in the game versus the Pacers Dwayne Wade shot a dismal 5-24 from the field.

(12)13. Dallas (43-30)
I didn't think Dallas stood a chance against Cleveland but I didn't anticipate a 28 point drubbing. The Mavs are in serious danger of missing out on the playoffs as they have have a pretty difficult remaining schedule, they only have three more road games but they still have games against the Heat, Suns, Jazz, Hornets (twice) and the Rockets.

(14)14. Philadelphia (37-35)
The 76ers have five home and five road games remaining, eight out of the ten games will be against teams in the playoff hunt.

(17)15. Detroit (36-37)
Allen Iverson returned to the after missing 16 games with a back injury, A.I. had eight points in 21 minutes.

(16)16. Chicago (36-39)
Despite the overtime loss on Sunday at Toronto 134 to 129 the Bulls are hot and are surging into the playoffs winners of four of their last five games.

(18)17. Charlotte (33-40)
Tough week for the Bobcats as they play the Lakers, Celtics, Heat and Detroit. The cats are currently two games behind the Bulls. Losses last week to the Pacers and the Wizards will haunt them.

(15)18. Phoenix (40-34)
The Suns haven't done themselves any favors this week getting blown out in Portland 129 to 109, losing in overtime in Utah 104 to 99 and topping it all off losing 126 to 118 against the Kings.

(19)19. Milwaukee (31-43)
Although the Bucks will probably not make the playoffs and all the injuries you have to tip your hat to Scott Skiles for having these guys compete every night.

(21)20. Indiana (31-43)
Brandon Rush balled out of control on Sunday scoring a career high 29 in a win over the Washington Wizards 124 to 115.

(20)21. New Jersey (30-43)
The Nets are almost mathematically out of the race for the eighth spot but rest assured they already given up losers of 11 of their last 15.

(22)22. New York (29-44)
I don't think the Knicks are going to be able to catch the Bulls for the eighth seed but the Knicks season was a success due to the lack of off-court, on-court and in court problems.

(24)23. Toronto (28-45)
I am very disappointed with the Raptors I had them in the playoffs this year and they are not even in contention for the eighth seed.

(23)24. Golden State (25-49)
The first business the Warriors need to attend to once the season is over is getting rid of Don Nelson, his formula for winning is flawed and has never won anything.

(25)25. Oklahoma City (20-53)
The rookie of the year race was a two mans race all year but the NBA got a fine player in Russell Westbrook 15.6ppg, 4.8rpg and 5.1apg.

(26)26. Minnesota (21-53)
The Timberwolves broke their seven game losing streak yesterday with a victory over the New Jersey Nets. Kevin Love had his best month as a pro in March averaging 15.3ppg and 9.4rpg.

(28)27. LA Clippers (18-56)
Zach Randolph said this past week he can understand why the Knicks traded him to free up space to get Lebron but said if it the move was made to get Chris Bosh he doesn't understand because he is better then Chris Bosh, and frankly I agree with wacko Zacko.

(27)28. Memphis (18-54 The Grizzlies are just going thru the motions at this point scoring only a mere 66 points in a loss to the Trailblazers.

(29)29. Washington (17-58)
Gilbert Arenas took shots at his teammates this week implying that Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler were not effective enough leaders due to JaVale McGee, Nick Young and Andrey Blatche not getting any better.

(30)30. Sacramento (16-56)
This Kings team will most likely finish with the worst record in team history. The current worst record in Kings history belongs to the 89-90 Kings who finished at 23-59.

Stu Parkerwow. after reading this blog....You are spot on. I do not deny Kevin Garnett's ability as a player but HATE the BS stuff he does...All negative crap.
This is a very unfair article. Garnett is an Olympic Gold Medalist, an MVP, an ALL STAR MVP, an ALL NBA member and an NBA Champion... you know how many current players can say that? 2 others (Shaq & Kobe) and they are all considered among the best players at their respected positions in the HISTORY of basketball. The same should be said for K.G.

RaThis is blasphemy. I hope a Celtics fan did not write this article.
KWAPTHow old is that clip of KG? C'mon..of course that was a punk move, but what was that, 10 years ago? It's simple: KG is a fierce competitor who uses intimiadation and mental toughness to strike fear in the heart of his opponents. If he is on your team, you LOVE him. If he is not, you may loathe him. But either way, he is a great player. You cannot deny that.
AlexWow, now we are going to call an Olympic Gold Medalist, an MVP, an ALL STAR MVP, an ALL NBA member, an NBA Champion, a player that has more 20-10-5 seasons than Larry Bird, Defender of the Year (2008 and most likely, this year) overrated? Hmm, right now I'm kind of smelling a bit of jealousy mixed with stupidity in this article.
TweedsterThis blog is poorly written, scattered and incoherent. Thankfully, someone else already tackled the inconsistencies and leaps of logic. Check it out hear: http://celticshub.com/2009/10/22/did-you-hear-kg-is-overrated/
TweedsterSome actual statistics, and not just conjecture and strange conclusions based on the number of 'chips KG has. http://www.celticstown.com/is-kevin-garnett-clutch.html
SPron campbell must love the Lakers. Or the Cav's. Or the Magic. but he doesn't know @$@@ about basketball!
Ed The Sports FanI'm sorry, there's no way in life Allen Iverson isn't in the starting 5, especially ahead of Nash. Give a damn about MVP's, Iverson's done more with much much MUCH less and totally revolutionized the game. Other than that, I think your decade team is cool. -Ed.
Lebron is the KingThe way you analyzed your stats is flawed. If your saying Bird is better because he hits more 3 pointers, scores more, and passes more, your wrong. Bird had exceptional teammates which explains some assists. Now Bird was a great 3 point shooter and you said Duncan was a "center playing a power forward". Now if he does this, why would you bash it? All it shows is how versatile Duncan is in his position on the court. Duncan although not a flashy player, showed dominance under the goal. Duncan didnt need to pass because he could school anyone under the goal. Duncan is better because he has more rings. End of story. And to your comment on "We will never see another Larry Bird." Well we see a better one now, he goes by Ray Ray.
