Celtics Are Done
By Marlon Benjamin
03/04/10

Back in 2007 when Celtics general manager Danny Ainge traded for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, I knew their championship window would only be a few years. As a matter of fact I remember telling my brother and father their window to win a championship would only be open for about three years.

Well I was wrong their window was only open for one season. You can't really count last season because KG went down early and once he was injured you had to know there was no way they were going to win a chip without the "ticket." Not only did the window close last season but in January 2010, after going 6-8, the windows were boarded up in February crack heads broke in and raided the place. Nets defeat Celtics 104 to 96 at Boston.

Saturday when the Celtics lost to the Nets all the excuses went out the window. You can't put losing to the 6-54 Nets on Paul Pierce being injured or that they haven't been at full strength or even the referees, who were terrible in that game by the way. The Nets shot 41 free throws to the Celtics 11. The Celtics are just old and tired. Garnett can't move laterally, Ray Allen can't defend anyone and the Rasheed Wallace signing has been a disaster, its March and he still isn't in shape.

The Celtics have dropped all the way to fourth in the eastern conference and if it weren't for Chris Bosh's injury, they would likely be in serious danger of dropping to the fifth seed. They are 2-8 against the Cavs, Magic and Hawks and frankly I don't see them at this point getting past any of those teams in a seven game season.

The Celtics big trade deadline move was trading 6'2' Eddie House for an even shorter two guard 4'11' Nate Robinson. I’m kidding Nate Robinson is listed at 5'9' but still the move was mediocre and I honestly don't see what Nate does to help the Celtics. Nate is a better ball handler then Eddie House but House didn't need the ball to be effective, Robinson needs the ball in his hands. I can see problems with Rondo and Robinson, Nate isn't a spot up shooter and defensively Rondo and Nate in the game isn't going to work. You heard rumors of Monta Ellis, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison as possible Celtics but I guess the front office wasn't ready to say goodbye to Ray Allen.

This summer is going to be very interesting for the Celtics as they are going to have to make some serious moves to get back to dominant form.
