Breakdown Blazers/Clippers Trade
By Ron Campbell
02/18/10

On Tuesday the Blazers and Clippers completed a trade that will send Marcus Camby to the Blazers in exchange for Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw. I like this trade for both teams, the Blazers add a center who will be able to play significant minutes during the playoffs and the Clippers add some depth to their roster.

The trade is really good for the Blazers who have both Greg Oden and Joel Pryzbilla out for the season with injury. Greg Oden's injury is one of the depressing story lines of the NBA season. Oden was beginning to show flashes of becoming a good (not great) center. Nobody knows how Greg Oden will be when he returns, if he can get back to where he was or will he loss a step. Oden has vowed to come back better then ever.

Another reason why this trade is good for the Blazers is because they give away two and get one. Call me crazy but earlier in the season when the Blazers were at full strength, they had to many players, they were actually too deep. They didn't have enough playing time to go around. Jerryd Bayless was rotting on the bench and Juwan Howard? Who knew he still played in the NBA let alone still had some game left in the tank. The worst part was Brandon Roy's game suffered in November he averaged 17.7ppg as compared to January where he averaged 24.0ppg.

The Clippers had to get rid of either their savvy veteran Camby or their younger all-star center Chris Kaman because like Greg Oden, Blake Griffin will miss his entire rookie campaign due to injury. With no chance of making the playoffs might as well get what you can for Camby now. Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake are solid pick-ups for Clippers it gives them depth. I don't think either player will ever do anything significant in a Clipper uniform.
