Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty to felony gun possession in the District of Columbia Superior Court. Arenas apologized to the organization, fans and thanked law enforcement officials for handling the situation. Don't know when we will see Arenas again but I wouldn't bet on this season. Lets get to the rankings:
(1)1. LA Lakers (31-9) It looks like Kobe Bryant's back is okay as he was able to go for 30 points in the Lakers win over the Clippers Friday. The Lakers play the Magic at home before embarking on an eight game road trip.
(3)2. Cleveland (31-11) The Cavs went 3-2 on their five game road trip which is very respectable. Lebron has been unstoppable as of late.
(6)3. Atlanta (26-13) The Hawks have taken control of the southeast division with three straight wins and a few Magic losses. The Hawks are so high because they have owned the Celtics with a 3-0 record.
(2)4. Boston (27-11) Kevin Garnett is still out of the line-up and the Celtics aren't playing well. Garnett has missed eight straight games but is expected to return this week.
(9)5. Denver (26-14) Carmelo Anthony's 29 points in the second half (37 overall) was too much for the Utah Jazz as the Nuggets cruised to a 119 to 112 victory.
(7)6. Dallas (26-14) Dirk Nowitzki was outplayed Sunday by Chris Bosh who scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Mavs 110 to 88 loss. Dirk finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
(5)7. San Antonio (24-15) The Spurs play six or their next seven games on the road and have a good opportunity to gain some ground on the Mavs.
(4)8. Orlando (26-14) The Magic are a surprising 3-6 in January and it makes me wonder if they are quitting on Stan Van Gundy? Having said that the Magic have played seven of the nine games on the road but this is supposed to be an elite team.
(8)9. Phoenix (24-17) The Suns have gone 0-3 in there four game road trip. They play at Memphis before returning home to face New Jersey.
(10)10. Portland (25-16) The injury bug has hit the Blazers again as strained hamstring kept Brandon Roy out of Friday's nights win over the Magic. I am not sure when Roy will return, the Blazers play the next four on the road.
(16)11. Memphis (21-18) The Grizzlies picked up Lester Hudson most likely to get a little more depth to the point guard position as both Mike Conley and Jamal Tinsley are a little banged up.
(13)12. New Orleans (21-18) The Hornets are having a hell of a new year with a record of 7-2 in January.
(11)13. Oklahoma City (22-18) The Thunder head on a four road game road trip this week. I see them losing to the Hawks and Cavs but getting wins against the Wolves and Grizzlies.
(14)14. Utah (23-18) The Jazz four game win streak was halted Sunday as they were handled by the Nuggets. Despite the loss the Jazz have been playing well as of late.
(12)15. Houston (22-18) The Rockets need to take advantage of their upcoming schedule with six of their next seven at home. Aaron Brooks, is he an all-star?
(15)16. Toronto (21-20) The Raptors are playing well but Hedo Turkoglu hasn't really found his groove with the Raptors as he is averaging only 13.1ppg a four year low.
(17)17. Miami (20-19) Michael Beasley is playing well these days averaging 19.8 in his last five games. With Beasley stepping up, the Heat have become a dangerous club.
(21)18. Charlotte (19-19) The Bobcats make a huge jump this week as they are playing really good basketball in the month of January. The Bobcats are 7-1 with notable wins over the Cavs, Spurs and Suns.
(20)19. Chicago (18-20) The Bulls have won four straight and are playing better but will they be able to keep it up on their upcoming stretch which has them playing 10 of their next 12 games on the road.
(18)20. LA Clippers (17-22) Blake Griffin's knee has not recovered properly and he is going to miss his entire rookie campaign but like Greg Oden a few years back Griffin will be eligible for rookie of the year honors next season.
(19)21. New York (16-24) The Knicks have lost four of their last five games and you gotta think they were playing better when Nate Robinson wasn't in the lineup.
(22)22. Milwaukee (16-22) It looks like Michael Redd is going to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, it is sad watching Redd's career be decimated by injury.
(29)23. Detroit (14-25) After losing thirteen straight games the Pistons have won three straight games. The Pistons play six out of the next seven games at home, this is their chance to get back into the playoff hunt.
(27)24. Indiana (14-26) The Pacers three game win streak was snapped on Saturday night with a loss to the Hornets. The next three games are on the road against the Heat, Magic and Pistons.
(23)25. Sacramento (15-24) Kevin Martin is back for the Kings and I don't necessarily think this is a good thing. Martin is very greedy and could be detrimental to Tyreke Evans development.
(25)26. Philadelphia (13-26) The Sixers have won three out of their last four games but still have a long way to go if they want to play in May and June.
(24)27. Washington (13-26) Flip Saunders won his 600Th game on Saturday night when the Wizards got past the Kings 96 to 86. Flip isn't having the start he expected in Washington but the Wizards have been dealing with chemistry issues, injuries, guns you name it these guys have had to deal with it.
(26)28. Golden State (11-27) Despite fouling out of the Warriors loss to the Bucks Friday night, Stephon Curry was allowed to play because the Warriors were down to four players and had to choose a bench player to finish the rest of the game.
(28)29. Minnesota (8-33) The Wolves really could have improved their team in last year's draft but former writer turned NBA General Manager totally blew it and passed up on good young talent. Now Al Jefferson is on the trading block, wow!
(30)30. New Jersey (3-36) I like Brook Lopez but how good can he be when his team is this poor.
