WOW... what a week this has been. There were the Saints, a Tiger and A.I. Oh my. Here are my thoughts on some of the most recent events.
Tiger Woods
From all indications, the greatest Golfer ever got caught up in the game of life. Just because you get married, have kids or have more money in the bank than over 50 countries in the world, it does not make you impervious to temptation. Tiger is one the most recognizable human beings on the planet, an icon in his sport and regardless of his personal preference a role model.
But first and foremost Woods is a man. Men love to chase women. Well most men, and they love to make love to the women they catch. Again most of them. Tiger is no different. Well there is one big difference between him and 99.9% of all other men. He is the one being chased, not doing the chasing and he has the celebrity status and financial means to make the most of any advance that comes his way. If he wants to fly 50 women to Paris, get 25 hotel rooms and manage a trios like Mr. Marcus for a weekend, he has the means to do that. He's Tiger. The problem is Tiger got married before he had a chance to experience ALL life has to offer. So with marriage, if he falls victim to temptation he runs the risk of oh maybe running for his life at 2 a.m. as his wife swings a 9 iron to his dome, or he has to scramble like after a misguided ball bounces into the bunker and call the "others" (www.rocktblog.com) to be on alert the wife got his phone. What about the victim, his wife, you ask? Well after her initial emotional meltdown because of the embarrassment of KNOWING what she may have already SUSPECTED she stand to receive an 8 figure upgrade in net worth. Oh to catch a Tiger by the tail.
New Orleans Saints
The undefeated Saints hosted the team of the decade New England Patriots on Monday Night Football and just embarrassed them. From the second quarter on it was unwatchable if you were cheering for the Pats. The Saints are 11-0 as are the Indianapolis Colts and it would be a sports fans dream to have these teams unbeaten and playing each other in the Super Bowl. Not only would it be the highest
rated sporting event in television history, it may also be the most watched sporting event EVER... or until...
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao
This fight is scheduled to be announced on Dec. 8th with the date being March 13th. It will be the most hyped boxing event of the Pay-per-View era. I do not care if I have to sell some skin I will be in attendance for this once in a lifetime event.
ps. I was playing about the skin. I am a G...
Allen Iverson
I have been very critical of Allen Iverson throughout his career. Mainly because I always saw greatness being consumed by ego. You are taught from grade school that practice makes perfect and since NONE of us will ever be perfect we all need to practice. A.I. made a complete mockery of that. He is a former MVP and he did take an abysmal team to the Finals but take away that year and his career reads like a T-Mac (minus the injuries), a Vince or an Arenas. High scoring averages, early round playoff exits and rifts with the organization. A.I. is just as talented as those three guys if not more so and plays 100x's harder. His legacy should be set in stone. He left Philly and was paired with one of the games most explosive players in Carmelo. Together they combined to go 1-8 in the playoffs.
He is traded away for a former Finals MVP and virtually the same team goes to the Conference Finals. I say virtually because they also gave away their starting center prior to last season. A.I. went to Detroit and the expectations were tempered but still high. I even read an article that said Detroit were instant contenders with A.I. in the mix. He finished the season on the inactive list with "back" issues which was right around the time Will Bynum began taking his minutes. The contenders stayed away in the off season amid reports of Iverson ONLY wanting to start instead of playing for the only piece of hardware that matters to most players; an NBA title. Memphis called and A.I. "answered". He wanted to show he COULD still play. Memphis started Mike Conley, A.I. left for personal reasons. New York was supposed to call but D'Antoni had other ideas. Philly called, and again A.I. "answered". This time it will be different. This is the ONLY city where A.I. ever mattered and he will matter once again. Philly is currently 9 games under .500 and will surely improve upon that with Iverson in the mix. He wants to retire a Sixer and based on his tearful welcome back press conference... one way or another he will. If it does not work out for him here it will not work ANYWHERE.
Hip-Hop
Young Jeezy to Gucci Mane “What’s understood don't need to be said". Recently the two Atlanta rap heavyweights seemed to end their rivalry on Dj Drama's show. Good for them. Jeezy is ok, I like Gucci, and together they should make some good music. Which leads me to the Top 5 collabo's in Hip Hop I would like to see today... http://thisis50.com/profiles/blogs/phone-call-young-jeezy-dj
Plan B
The San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Cavs were among every credible analysts choices to be two of the possible five teams that were capable of winning an NBA title this season. The Cavs are led by perhaps the most complete player in the history of the league and the Spurs were supposed to finally be "healthy" Both teams have gotten off to sub par starts and with the Lakers, Magic and Celtics all getting off to terrific starts and obviously better, red flags are flying daily. It is still EARLY so the panic button should not be
worn out just yet. But if these two perennial contenders continue to stumble, they may have to resort to Plan B...
