Remember the 2008 draft? Many analysts and bloggers were calling it one of the most talented and deepest draft classes of all time due to the amount of high-schoolers being restricted from entering the NBA draft. Well that draft class is in their second season and I thought it was time to evaluate the first rounders and their performance thus far this season. Some guys I couldn't evaluate due to lack of playing time so I gave those players an incomplete which really isn't a ringing endorsement. Lets get to it shall we:
1. Derrick Rose – C:
Derrick Rose has had a slow start and hasn't looked like the Rose we saw in the playoffs. I believe he hasn't mentally recovered from the injury he suffered in the pre-season.
2. Michael Beasley – C:
Beasley's scoring and rebounding are up slightly from last year but his shooting percentages are down significantly. Beasley's field goal percentage (FG%) is .426 down from .472 and his 3 point percentage (3P%) is .240 down from .407.
3. OJ Mayo – C+:
Overall Mayo's numbers aren't that bad. His scoring and assists are down but I expected Mayo to take a bigger step forward this season.

4. Russell Westbrook – A:
Westbrook came into the season a better passer and a better shooter then he was last year and his play is one of the main reasons why his team is experiencing early season success.
5. Kevin Love – Incomplete:
Due to injury
6. Danilo Gallinari – C:
Gallinari is one of the few bright spots for the Knicks. He has shown flashes of brilliance this season but he also shown that he can completely disappear. His ability to disappear was evident a few weeks ago when he scored 0 points in the Knicks victory over the Pacers.
7. Eric Gordon – B:
Gordon is currently injured but when he has played he has been terrific for the Clippers. In seven games Gordon is shooting .507 from the field which is pretty deadly for a shooting guard.
8. Joe Alexander – Incomplete:
Due to injury
9. DJ Augustin – F:
Augustin is in Larry Brown's doghouse. He has also scored less then five points eight times this season including two 1 point outings and a 0 point outing.
10. Brook Lopez – C+:
Lopez would have probably gotten an A if his team at the very least won five games but as it stands the Nets are the worst team in the NBA and likely one of the worst of all-time. I am not sure whether Lopez is good or is just putting up big numbers on a bad team.
11. Jerryd Bayless – C:
A (C) is actually a very generous grade for Bayless who really hasn't done or proven anything in the league thus far. I gave him a (C) for the same reason my fifth grade teacher gave me a B in Math, because I believe in him.
12. Jason Thompson – B:
Jason Thompson has improved his scoring, rebounding but most importantly he has improved his free throw percentage which is currently at .807 up from .692.
13. Brandon Rush – C-:
It’s amazing but Brandon Rush is averaging exactly the same amount of points per game as he did last year 8.1.
14. Anthony Randolph – B-:
Randolph has tons of potential but Don Nelson seems poised to destroy any confidence he has. Randolph gets a B minus for questioning Nelson over his lack of playing time.
15. Robin Lopez – Incomplete:
Due to injury
16. Marreese Speights – B-:
If Speights had gotten injured a few weeks ago he would have eventually taken Elton Brand starting job.
17. Roy Hibbert – B-:
Hibbert is playing very well to start the season, he is averaging 11.5ppg 8.3rpg 2.1bpg. Hibbert has already recorded five double-doubles this season.
18. JaVale McGee – D:
JaVale appeared poised to contribute to the Wizards during summer league and pre-season but he has failed to produce.
19. J.J. Hickson – B-:
Hickson has worked his way into the Cavs starting line-up and since Mike Brown made the move the Cavs are 7-1.
20. Alexis Ajinca – Incomplete:
He hasn't played 48 minutes this season.
21. Ryan Anderson – B:
Ryan Anderson filled in nicely for Rashard Lewis while he was suspended and his move to the bench will only make Orlando a more dangerous team.
22. Courtney Lee – C:
Courtney Lee is injured but he did appear in six games and played ok but his team being perfectly defeated doesn't help his grade.
23. Kosta Koufas – D:
Kosta came out way too early this would have been his junior year at Ohio State.
24. Serge Ibaka – D+:
Serge didn't play a single game last year but he gets a passing D plus for recording his first double-double (11 points and 13 rebounds) in a loss to the Lakers Sunday Night.
25. Nicolas Batum – Incomplete:
Due to injury
26. George Hill – B-:
George Hill is vastly improved from last year. It is obvious that he has learned a thing or two playing behind Tony Parker. Hill started in four games this season and averaged 16.5 points.
27. Darrell Arthur – Incomplete:
Due to injury
28. Donte Greene – C:
Donte has improved significantly and has been seeing a steady increase in his playing time. He will need to work on bringing it consistently every night.
29. DJ White – Incomplete:
He hasn't played 48 minutes this season.
30. JR Giddens– Incomplete:
He hasn't played 48 minutes this season.
