A lot of crazy and unexpected things happened in the NBA this past week: Bryon Scott was fired, Lakers beat the Suns then the Nuggets and Rockets both beat the Lakers; the Hawks and Pacers both beat the Celtics; Sacramento has now won four in a row without Kevin Martin; Brandon Jennings all but took home the NBA Rookie of the Year trophy scoring 55 points in a win against the Warriors on Saturday night. The big question is with all the top teams taking a loss who is number one this week? Let’s take a look: (Previous weeks ranking first).

(6)1. Atlanta (8-2)
Last year the Hawks were 16-25 on the road but this season they are off to a terrific 4-2 start with a huge win in Boston on Friday. The Hawks off-season acquisitions of Joe Smith and Jamal Crawford are paying huge dividends early on.

(11)2. Cleveland (7-3)
Lebron James is going to change his number from 23 to 6 in honor of Michael Jordan which is a very classy move by James. Cavs are on a four game winning streak.

(7)3. Denver (7-3)
The Nuggets finished their six game road trip going a respectable 3-3. The Nuggets pounded out the Lakers on Friday 105 to 79.

(3)4. LA Lakers (7-3)
Kobe Bryant is in a bit of a scoring slump. Against Denver he didn't score in the second half and finished with 19 points and versus the Rockets on Sunday he shot 5-20 from the field and only scored 18 points.

(1)5. Phoenix (9-2)
Amare went 2-15 from the field for 8 points in an embarrassing loss to the Lakers Friday night but he rebounded nicely scoring 30 points in the Suns win over the Raptors. Amare's season has been a let down thus far as he is averaging just 18.1ppg and 7.9rpg, both below his career averages.

(2)6. Boston (8-3)
The Celtics dropped two in a row. One to the maturing Hawks at home and the other to the young Pacers on the road and frankly they looked old in both losses.

(4)7. Miami (7-2)
Got to love Dwayne Wade. He is old-school and wants to embarrass his opponents. If you watched the Anderson Varejao dunk, Wade purposely wanted to walk over him. His game winner over the Nets on Saturday was just cold blooded.

(5)8. Orlando (7-3)
Rashard Lewis will finally play Monday versus the Bobcats after serving a 10 game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs.

(8)9. Dallas (7-3)
The Mavericks have won four out five but injury woes continue to plague Josh Howard who will be out indefinitely with an ankle injury.

(12)10. Portland (8-3)
Portland quietly has won six straight games and has the longest current winning streak in the NBA so expect a very special game Monday when they head into the ATL.

(13)11. Milwaukee (5-2)
"Young Money" is a very fitting nickname for Brandon Jennings. This rookie is unbelievable and I think it is safe to say after seven games that he is the Rookie of the Year. On Saturday he torched the Warriors for 55 points 5 rebounds and 5 assists after scoring 0 points in the first quarter.

(9)12. Houston (6-4)
Nice revenge win for the Rockets Sunday over the Lakers 101 to 91. The Rockets had lost to the Lakers earlier in the season in overtime 101 to 100. Aaron Brooks scored a career high 33 points in the win.

(10)13. Chicago (5-4)
The Bulls beat the 76ers at home on Saturday but they are about to begin their annual "the circus is in town so we have to play on the road" road trip. The Bulls will play six road games before returning home on December 2nd.

(17)14. San Antonio (4-4)
Tim Duncan and Tony Parker sat out for games against the Raptors and the Mavericks. The Spurs won both of those games but Timmy and Tony returned for Saturday's game against the Thunder and the Spurs lost.

(23)15. Sacramento (5-4)
Since Kevin Martin has gone out with injury the Kings have won four straight. Are the Kings better without Martin? It kind of makes you wonder.

(14)16. Oklahoma City (5-5)
The Thunder play the next four out of five games on the road but the young Thunder have fared well on the road thus far this season going 3-2.

(15)17. Toronto (5-5)
The Raptors lost a tough one Sunday versus the Suns 101 to 100. The Raptors play Denver and Utah before returning home Friday to play the Heat.

(18)18. Detroit (5-5)
Terrible shooting night for Ben Gordon on Sunday who went 1-16 for only five points. Will Bynum is becoming a go to guy in the fourth quarter for the Pistons. Bynum scored 17 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter unfortunately the Pistons lost 95 to 90.

(21)19. Indiana (4-3)
Danny Granger predicted the Pacers would beat the Celtics and he was right. The Pacers have won four straight and are rolling. This week they play the Nets, Knicks, Cavs and Bobcats.

(22)20. Utah (4-6)
The bad news for the Jazz, Deron Williams has been out attending to personal family issues, let’s wish him and his family well. The good news is Eric Maynor and Wes Matthews have stepped up and shown that they are ready to contribute.

(16)21. Philadelphia (4-6)
Their record isn't that bad but you have to assume that they expected a better start then this. They have lost four out of five games. Promising forward Mareese Speight is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a left knee injury.

(20)22. LA Clippers (4-7)
Chris Kaman is having his best season as a pro averaging a career high 22 points per game. Kaman scored 25 points to lead the Clips past the Thunder on Sunday night.

(19)23. Charlotte (3-6)
The Bobcats allow are 2nd in the league at points allowed at 88.6 points a game but they also score the least amount of points with only 82.4 per game.

(25)24. Washington (2-7)
The Wizards have lost six in a row and it all started with the 102 to 90 loss to the Cavs their arch rivals. The Wiz will meet the Cavs again on Wednesday and a win will be huge for their morale.

(24)25. New Orleans (3-8)
Byron Scott was the first coach to be fired this year because the team is in financial troubles and management refuses to add young talent to the roster. General Manager Jeff Bower took over as head coach and in his first game Chris Paul sprains his ankle, karma is a beeyatch.

(29)26. Golden State (3-6)
It is time to fire Don Nelson, I said it last week and the week before that. His team plays no defense and on Saturday they sunk to an all-time low allowing rookie Brandon Jennings to torch them for 55 points.

(26)27. Memphis (2-8)
Jamaal Tinsley is the newest member of the Memphis Grizzlies and according to Tinsley somebody in the organization doesn't like the coach.

(27)28. Minnesota (1-10)
Last year the Wolves won their first game of the season and then lost eight straight. This year the Wolves won their first and have lost 10 straight. Hindsight is 20/20 but David Kahn totally blew last years draft Rubio/Flynn over Jennings/Curry.

(28)29. New York (1-9)
The Knicks are off to their worst start in franchise history. The worst part is they may not be able to sign Lebron or any big name free agents in the off-season.

(30)30. New Jersey (0-10)
The Nets suffered another gut wrenching loss at the hands of Dwayne Wade and you got to wonder how long will it take before these guys put together a win.

FLICKorNov 16 2009 2:03PMThere is no way Atlanta should be number one. They have had hot starts and hot streaks in the past and have shown they cannot win when it matters most. They lack the leader that the other top teams have which will eventually mean they will go no where since nobody is leading them anywhere.
