My Rare View - NFL Season Week 1

1. Denver Broncos fans better be careful what they wish for because they just might get it. It is always trendy for fans to campaign for the back-up QB when the starter is neither hot nor popular however Bronco fans have taken it to the extreme by chanting in unison for the teams 3rd string QB. Bronco nation please have a seat, take a deep breath and get in tune with reality. John Elway does not play any more and Tim Tebow is not his reincarnate.
2. The Ravens made the Steelers look as horrendous as I have ever seen this team look since Mike Tomlin has been their head coach. The Ravens defense forced a franchise tying best 7 turnovers and the offense punished the Steelers defense with 170 yards rushing. The Steelers will still make the playoffs so in the long run the beat down they took may prove to be an eye opener.
3. The Kansas City Chiefs surprisingly finished in first place in the NFC West a season ago losing only 5 games and opened this season at home against a Buffalo Bills team who would consider this season somewhat of a success if they could win 5 games. So what happened? Buffalo 41 Kansas City 7. Obviously this team is in serious turmoil and going nowhere swiftly.
4. The Packers and Saints opened up the NFL season last Thursday in a match-up of the last two Super Bowl winners. The game did not disappoint as the outcome was not decided until the final play. Brees and Rodgers will be battling for NFC supremacy for years to come and do not be surprised if one of them win another title before their career is over.
5. The end of the kickoff return as we know if seems to be extremely exaggerated. There were 3 such returns during the first week of action. Maybe it is the shortened off season or maybe just maybe it is what it is.
6. Cam Newton shocked the entire football world with a 400 yard passing debut. No one, not even Cam's parents saw this one coming. It is way too early too jump to any conclusions but the Panthers could not have prayed for a better start to their young QB's career.
7. The Chicago Bears are one of the toughest teams to figure out. The can look like title contenders one week and league doormats the next. Last week against a formidable Falcons team they absolutely looked like contenders.
PLAYER OF THE WEAK - Donovan McNabb, Minnesota - 7 for 15 39 yards 1 td and 1 int. QB rating 47.9.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Vick and the Eagles bump the Rams
The Ravens destroy the Steelers
Is Matthew Stafford for real?
POWER 5:
1. Tom Brady, New England - 517 yards passing, 4 touchdowns.
2. Ted Ginn Jr, San Francisco - 4 kick off returns, 44.0 yard average 1 td, 5 punt returns 18.4 yard avg. 1 td.
3.. Baltimore Ravens Defense - 10 pass deflections, 4 sacks, 4 fumble recoveries and 3 interceptions.
4. Mike Tolbert, San Diego - 35 yards rushing 1 td, 9 catches 58 yards receiving 2 tds.
5. Steve Smith, Carolina - 8 receptions, 178 yards and 2 touchdowns
Week 2 Preview
The Pittsburgh Steelers will absolutely blow the doors off the Seattle Seahawks. 35-3 in a game that will not be as close as any final score would indicate.
The Patriots will have a difficult time against the dangerous Chargers but pull it out in the end. 31-28. Brady will be focused to solve the Chargers defense.
In the matchup of the week there is no way I can see the contending Falcons falling to 0-2. Even with all the hoopla around the return of a certain Eagles QB. Atlanta 27 Philadelphia 17.
