NBA Summer Power Rankings

The NBA off-season was filled with a lot of drama as usual, you had betrayal with Elton Brand and intrigue with team USA. We saw the globalization of the NBA begin as Josh Childress, Brandon Jennings made the decision to play overseas. Some teams got better others didn't do much, here is an early look at where we rank these teams based on their off-season moves.

1. Celtics
Tony Allen will try to replace James Posey defense and overall energy on the floor. With increased playing time I expect Tony to thrive. Rajon Rondo is only getting better entering his third pro year.

2. Lakers
The return of Andrew Bynum may be able to give the Lakers the toughness they were missing during their surprising playoff run to the Finals. The battle between the Lakers and Hornets should provide a lot of drama during the season.

3. Hornets
The Hornets made a lot of noise in the offseason by convincing James Posey, an integral part of the NBA champions Boston Celtics to join Chris Paul and David West. Posey is expected to compete for the two-guard position.

4. Rockets
In a perfect world the Rockets could win the championship with addition of Ron Artest or the addition of Ron could make team chemistry become an issue. Yao has already sent a warning. We will have to wait and see which side the coin flips on.

5. Cavaliers
Good news is Mo Williams is a huge pick up for the Cavs, he give LeBron a legit #2 option. Bad news Delonte West who was huge in the playoffs for the Cavs, will most likely play for another team next season.

6. Jazz
The Jazz made no moves this off-season but I still think the Kyle Korver mid-season trade will pay additional dividends this season.

7. Spurs
The Spurs I believe will be on a decline this season they didn't make any significant changes and they didn't get any younger or more athletic.

8. Mavericks
The only good thing about the Mavs off-season was getting Rick Carlisle to take over. Other than that Jason Kidd got older, Dirk Nowitski, judging by the Olympics, got softer and Mark Cuban spent $30 million on Desagna Diop.

9. Pistons
The Pistons did not break up their core unit of Rasheed, Chauncey, Rip and Tayshaun who haven't gotten over the hump in the last few years. Rodney Stuckey is my early winner of sixth man of the year but the Pistons I think won't be as good this season, its never good when a team signs Kwame Brown.

10. Raptors
The Raps entire season will rest on the health of Jermaine O'Neal, if he is healthy the Raptors will be able to get past the second round. Jose Calderon will see a significant increase in minutes with TJ Ford out of town.

11. 76ers
Elton Brand was the prize of the off-season and the 76ers got him and re-signed dAndre Igoudola who I think will be able to flourish as Brand's sidekick.

12. Wizards
The best thing the Wiz could do this off-season was to get Gilbert Arenas aka Agent Zero healthy and all reports are that he will back healthy.

13. Magic
Mickael Pietrus is an upgrade from Keyon Dooling and Maurice Evans however I am hoping J.J. Redick finally gets incorporated into the offense.

14. Hawks
Josh Childress will be missed but the Hawks were able to re-sign Josh Smith and Al Horford will only get better after a stellar rookie campaign.

15. Suns
The Suns could miss the playoffs, Shaq and Steve Nash only got older during the offseason.

16. Blazers
Greg Oden is back, but Brandon Roy will most likely miss training camp after having athrosopic knee surgery. Rookie Jerryd Bayless looked terrific in summer league.

17. Heat
If the Olympics have been any indication of what to expect from Dwayne Wade then expect the Heat to return to respectability. Shawn Marion has not gotten his extension so he could be gone before the season starts, but how could Pat Riley not give Wade-Michael Beasley and Marion trio a chance.

18. Nuggets
I am still shaking my head over the Marcus Camby trade. Jim Boeheim posed a great question, the heirs to the Wal-Mart fortune can't afford to keep the Camby, there only defensive presence.

19. Clippers
Elton Brand and Corey Maggette have moved onto greener pastures but the Clippers were able to get Baron Davis, Marcus Camby and Ricky Davis. With Al Thornton returning and the addition of Eric Gordan, it will be interesting to see how they fair.

20. Warriors
The Warriors I don't think will make the playoffs, Baron Davis meant to much for them but Anthony Randolph looks very promising and Corey Maggette should be good for about 16-20 points per game.

21. Bulls
Derrick Rose maybe a year away but I think he still will be a terrific player. Ben Gordon has announced he won't be a Bull next season, he will be missed.

22. Bucks
The Bucks committed grand theft larceny when they were able to acquire Richard Jefferson for Yi Jianlian, I also like the Luke Ridnour pickup he will be given a chance to revive his career in Milwaukee. This could be the year the Bucks sneak back into the playoffs.

23. Pacers
I can't believe Larry Bird traded Jerryd Bayless.

24. Kings
Ron Artest is gone and Bobby Jackson is back. The Kings were also able to get Donte Greene the summer league standout in the deal for Artest. Jason Thompson may turnout to be a terrific pick up for the Kings.

25. T-Wolves
The Wolves will be much improved as Kevin McHale actually made good some good decisions picking up Kevin Love and Mike Miller from the Grizz.

26. Bobcats
Bobcats were able to re-sign Emeka Okafor for 6 year $72 million which is reasonable, DJ Augustin was an excellent pick and new coach Larry Brown will be ready to guide this young bunch.

27. TBD
Oklahoma City hasn't picked a name yet and I don't expect this young bunch to make a name for themselves either.

28. Grizzlies
OJ Mayo will be the only reason to tune into watch the Grizzlies on NBA league pass.

29. Nets
The Nets traded Richard Jefferson for Yi JianLian and are basically setting themselves up for the 2010 free Agency summer.

30. Knicks
I don't think, Mike D'Antoni taking over coaching duties will make much of a difference in New York, especially if the Knicks can't find any takers for either Zach Randolph or Eddy Curry.
